The incident took place on Wednesday when Holly Springs police officer Joe Burson,25, confronted 29-year-old Ansy Dolce as he attempted to flee the scene. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations said in a statement that Dolce dragged Burson as he tried to escape from his vehicle until it crashed.
“Preliminary information indicates that Holly Springs Police officers were conducting a traffic stop for speeding just after 11 p.m. on June 16 at the intersection of Harmony Lake Drive and Hickory Road. At some point during the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle, a man later identified as Ansy Dolce, 29, of Cherokee County, attempted to escape in his car. Dolce dragged Holly Springs Police Officer Joe Burson, age 25, down Hickory Road until the vehicle crashed. During the incident, Burson fired shots at Dolce.”

Police Cheif Tommy Keheley said in a statement Thursday that investigators concluded that Burst shot Dolce as he was being dragged by his vehicle and both men died after being transported to local hospitals where they were later pronounced dead. Keheley added that Burson was performing a routine traffic stop and said “It was just a simple stop and the bottom line is, every bit of this could have been avoided. This is the worst day of any police chief’s job.”
