Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a statement earlier tonight that 56 percent of Californians are expected to be infected with the novel coronavirus within a few weeks.
ABC 7 reports state health officials estimated that 56 percent of California’s population will become infected with COVID-19 within the next eight weeks. Newsom wrote the shocking statistic in a letter to President Donald Trump where he also requested that the Navy’s USNS Mercy, the world’s largest hospital ship, to be docked in California.

“The acquisition of the Mercy here off the coast of the state of California would provide additional 1,000 bed capacity, provides support for pharmacists and other diagnostic equipment. This resource will help decompress the health care delivery system to allow the Los Angeles region to ensure that it has the ability to address critical acute care needs, such as heart attacks and strokes or vehicle accidents, in addition to the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases,”

It was announced earlier today that Los Angeles will be on a 24-hour lockdown following after San Francisco in order for residents to practice social distancing.
News: Los Angeles County is now a shelter in place or stay at home county due to coronavirus concerns.
They are calling it “safer at home.”
Essential shopping: food, pharmacies, etc are permitted.
