Gabrielle Union is opening up about her past relationship like never before, admitting that during the time she was married to former NFL star Chris Howard, the pair weren’t exactly faithful to one another. The actress was married to her ex between 2001 to 2006, but according to Union, she knew she had taken things too far by marrying Howard because neither of them was ready to commit.

In her recent interview on Dax Shephard’s “Armchair Expert Podcast,” the 50-year-old quipped that she certainly wasn’t going to be getting the Wife of the Year award when it came to her relationship with Howard. Union went on to share that she wished she had felt more guilt about the infidelity that was going on in the marriage but looking back on it now, she should have never agreed to walk down the aisle.

Union explained how she couldn’t feel bad about her actions because she looked at the marriage as “just such a stupid relationship that should never have gotten out of the dating phase.” The “Think Like A Man” star said she would regularly try to one-up her ex when their views wouldn’t align, adding, “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s what you’re doing? You’re gonna feel this one.’” She also believed that because she was the breadwinner, she felt “entitled” to cheat.

“I felt that that’s what comes, the spoils of riches,” Union gushed. “Like my dad before me, whoever has the most gets to do whatever the hell they want, is what I thought.” The “Cheaper By The Dozen” star said she felt “horny for validation and having certain kinds of guys like me and want me. That made me feel like I was worthy and good and valuable and deserving.”

Of course, things are quite different now for the Nebraska native, who settled down with her longtime beau and now-husband Dwyane Wade. The pair tied the knot back in 2014 and welcomed their daughter, Kaavia, via surrogate back in November 2018.

Interestingly enough, when quizzed on whether things were different when she initially met Wade and they started their relationship, Union expressed that things were very much the same but she knew the pair both had to do “inner work” in order to heal and become a stronger duo.

“We randomly came back around as more healed people and more open to understanding our complicity in some of the challenges that we created for ourselves,” she said. “We are way easier to point the finger, you did this to me, you caused that, this person did this, and it’s like, okay, we’re grown,”
