Congratulations to Gabourey Sidibe, who has revealed that she tied the knot with her now-husband, Brandon Frankel, well over a year ago. Her surprising confession made during her appearance on “Live With Kelly And Ryan” on Monday morning even left the show’s hosts startled as they tried to make sense of how the actress managed to keep her marriage hidden for so long.
Gabourey, who became engaged to her husband in November 2020, started off by explaining why she dislikes weddings. “The thing about weddings is I don’t like them. I don’t like them. Here’s an example of how much I don’t like them: I’m actually married. We got married over a year ago.”

Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Ripa both look puzzled by the revelation before asking Brandon — who was sitting in the studio audience — whether Gabourey was being serious, prompting him to flash his wedding ring. “Wait, is this breaking news?” Kelly asked, to which the “Precious” star responded, “Yeah, we got married at the kitchen table; it was just us.” The wedding took place four months after they were engaged, which would be in February 2021.
While the 39-year-old Brooklyn native has indeed welcomed married life into her blossoming relationship, she added that she hasn’t actually had a ceremony yet with her family members. Her mother-in-law, in particular, is said to be stressing for it to happen. But Gabourey says she’s been hesitant when it comes to weddings because her mom used to be a wedding singer.
Because she would be taken to all of her mom’s gigs “uninvited,” she doesn’t find the joy in going to them anymore, implying that she’s already been to so many that it may not be as sentimental for her to have one at all.

Elsewhere, on Instagram, Brandon took to Instagram after their appearance on the morning chat show. He captioned his post, writing, “SURPRISE! I can finally call her my WIFE publicly! Since @gabby3shabby finally spilled the beans today on Live with Kelly and Ryan- we’ve been MARRIED since March ’21! Relieved we can finally tell the world. So thankful to have found my forever person, my partner-in-crime, and the love of my life.”
