Fulton County Judge Says She’s Been Getting Death Threats Over YSL RICO Case

Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat isn’t the only one receiving death threats over the YSL RICO case. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis recently spoke with Channel 2 where she shared that she now has to take extraordinary measures to protect herself and her family amid threats over the high-profile racketeering indictment involving Atlanta rappers and the creation of a special grand jury to investigate efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia.

Willis explained that the threats started after the gang indictment targeting Atlanta rappers Young Thug and Gunna along with alleged members of the Young Slime Life Gang. “We don’t believe that these threats were directed by anyone that is in the YSL indictment,” Willis said. “I would say that (threats are coming from) people that are very sympathetic, maybe admirers of YSL and people who are connected with them in some sense.”

In addition to that, she said she is also getting more harsh comments from Trump’s supporters after she announced that a special grand jury will be looking into certain events connected to the most recent presidential election in Georgia. “Oh, it is definitely a significant driver of the heightened security,” Willis told the outlet. “People are angry about that investigation. People are angry about investigations into gangs, so each of those things plays a factor,” WSBTV quotes.

Willis said the threats have completely changed her day-to-day life. Trying not to put herself, friends and family in harms way, she does less with them to keep them all safe.

“I’m much more cautious than I’ve ever been in my life, paying more attention to my surroundings” Willis said. “It’s required for me to stay alive.”

What Happened In The YSL RICO Case?

As we previously reported, Gunna and rapper Young Thug have been accused of possession and intent to sell narcotics, receiving stolen property, and for general street gang activity. They were also charged with being part of a larger criminal enterprise comprised of YSL associates who are alleged to have been involved in a number of crimes, including the attempted murder of rapper YFN Lucci.

Although they’ve been accused of some serious crime, both rapper’s attornies say their client are innocent. In a statement to TMZ, he said, Gunna’s lawyer said, “Mr. Sergio Kitchens, known as Gunna, is innocent. The indictment falsely portrays his music as part of a criminal conspiracy.” The legal team, comprised of Donald F. Samuel, John A. Garland and Kristen W. Novay added, “Mr. Kitchens has been an advocate for his community, and it is our privilege to advocate for him.”

So far the two have been denied bond.
