On Friday, June 16, French Montana premiered his new project “For Khadija” at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City. The inspirational and touching documentary executive produced by Drake and Sean “Diddy” Combs, chronicles the Morocco-born rapper’s journey as he migrated to the United States at 13 for a better life. While navigating through the South Bronx with his single mother and his siblings; not speaking a lick of English, French details how he was able to find his voice and pursue a successful rap career.

“For Khadija” also show the unbreakable bond he has with his dear mother, Khadija Guled. He credits her for teaching him about faith, respect, and uplifting others and that’s exactly what we saw from French earlier in this week.

The “Unforgettable” rapper recently posted a cute clip where he celebrated his son graduating from middle school. While the kids were talking in the background, French overheard them debating which female rapper was better between Latto and Ice Spice. French chimed in to let them know that both are equally valid. While speaking French on the red carpet at Tribeca, he explained to us why it was important as a male rapper to always uplift women especially the female rappers in the industry. He said, “There’s enough energy trying to break us a part and tear us down. I love when we stick up for each other. Ice Spice from the Bronx, Latto from ATL. I remember both of them when they were getting on. I love them. They both two different types of artists.”

Understandably, French went on to explain that, “Kids are just crazy. See those kids; my son and them? Those are the same kids that be on the internet going crazy on everyone. But we can’t tear each other down.”

More From French Montana’s “For Khadija” Documentary Premiere

Speaking more about the film, French told us that he felt it was very important to share his story with the world… not just the good but also highlight his struggles as a migrant — something that’s not often seen on the big screen.

“That’s what makes me unique. Being an immigrant from Morocco and taking what Allah gave me and putting my own mix to it, and taking the chances that I did. That’s what makes me unique.”

He went on to say, “Coming here at 13 not knowing English from Morocco then going to the Bronx where there’s a rapper on every street. I’m like, ‘Yo I’m trying to rap.’” And he did!

French is a multi-platinum rapper with record-breaking hits and will continue to get even bigger!
