The tragic accident took place early Saturday morning when five people were riding the hot air balloon before it detached from the gondola that was carrying them. A video captured by a witness shows the hot air balloon floating down and they said the gondola crashed into power lines, leading it to set on fire and resulting in power outages within the area.

The victims were reported to be between the ages of 40-60 but the surviving passenger was transported to a local hospital where they were listed in critical condition. Albuquerque Fire and Rescue said in a statement that one of the male victims was a pilot of the hot air balloon.
