Eleven Army soldiers were hospitalized after drinking a container of antifreeze they assumed was alcohol in El Paso, Texas.

After completing their 10-day field training on Thursday, the eleven soldiers celebrated by gathering together and drinking a cup of alcohol. The Army’s public affairs stated the group were rushed to a local hospital and were tested for poisoning. The toxicology report revealed they consumed ethylene glycol, also known as antifreeze, and were poisoned as a result.
“Army and Fort Bliss regulations prohibit the consumption of alcohol in a field training environment. Initial toxicology results indicate the soldiers are experiencing ethylene glycol poisoning.”

Consumption of antifreeze can lead to kidney damage and death as reported by Raw Story. Those listed in the hospitalization included two non-commissioned officers, eight service members, a warrant officer, and their identities were not released.
The soldiers are still hospitalized and the status of their condition is currently unknown.
