A former soccer player for Virginia Tech has filed a federal lawsuit against her former coach who kicked her off after she refused to kneel to honor Black lives during a game.

Kiersten Hening says the incident occurred last September when her teammates kneeled for Black lives that were lost due to police brutality. However, Hening refused to participate and said her coach, Charles Adair, forcefully kicked her off of the team and said he was biased due to her political views. The lawsuit filed against Adair states that the 21-year-old student believes that black lives matter but she is not supportive of the organization and doesn’t believe in defunding the police.

According to Baller Alert, Hening was benched on Sept. 12, 2020, during a pregame where her teammates kneeled during a reading of a “unity statement.” Later during halftime, Adair reported told Hening that she was “b*tching and moaning” and benched her for the rest of the game. The documentation also states that Hening feels that her constitutional rights were violated at that time.

It is unclear how much money Hening is suing her former coach for but she wants to be placed back on the team and asked if a judge can court order Adair to take a course about the First Amendment.
