“This resolution is conditioned upon the court accepting the stipulations of the parties,” defense attorney David Chesnoff said during the hearing, via the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “In the event that the court does not accept the stipulations, Mr. Ruggs will be permitted to withdraw his guilty plea, proceed to trial and litigate all issues.”
As we previously reported, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated Ruggs was driving a Chevrolet, and that “preliminary investigation indicates the front of the Chevrolet collided with the rear of the Toyota.”
“Responding officers located the Toyota on fire,” the statement reads. “Fire department personnel responded and located a deceased victim inside the Toyota.”
Police said Ruggs stayed on the scene and “showed signs of impairment,” the release states.
“The Raiders are aware of an accident involving Henry Ruggs III that occurred this morning in Las Vegas,” the Raiders said in a statement obtained by ESPN. “We are devastated by the loss of life and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family. We are in the process of gathering information and will have no further comment at this time.”
Ruggs also made headlines last year when he missed his mandatory drug test and was ordered to wear an ankle monitor to calculate his alcohol levels. A representative of the corporation in charge of the Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitoring device, or SCRAM, Baucum said it seemed that Ruggs’ missed test was due to a miscommunication.
“As everybody knows this is a high-profile case, but you have to be treated the same as any other defendant, as any other person that appears before the court,” Baucum shared.
As previously reported, A Las Vegas judge ruled Henry Ruggs III to appear before her on Monday after it was brought to her attention that he missed a mandatory alcohol test while on house arrest following a deadly crash he’s accused of resulting in by driving drunk at speeds up to 156 mph.
