A former middle school principal has confessed to orchestrating the murder of a teacher who was carrying his child, using school funds to pay for the crime. Cornelius M. Green, formerly an administrator of Carr Lane Visual and Performing Arts Middle School, pleaded guilty to charges of murder-for-hire and conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire relating to the 2016 death of 30-year-old Jocelyn Peters. Peters, who was seven months pregnant at the time, tragically lost her life in this calculated act. Amid his confession, prosecutors have recommended a life sentence for Green.

Green’s involvement with Peters, who was not only a colleague but also pregnant with his child, turned sinister when he and a close acquaintance, Phillip Cutler, plotted her murder in early 2016. Cutler, who has denied the charges against him and awaits trial, is alleged to have executed the murder, agreeing to the deed over a chilling text exchange that laid the groundwork for the crime. On March 21, Cutler arrived in St. Louis, staying at a residence shared by Green and his sister, with Green providing the logistical support necessary for carrying out the murder, including the keys to Peters’ apartment and a vehicle.

According to Law and Crime, Green’s plan included a calculated alibi; he traveled to Chicago by Amtrak, leaving Cutler equipped to carry out the murder. Cutler then proceeded to Peters’ home on March 24, where he fatally shot her with a .38 caliber firearm, shockingly using a potato as an improvised silencer. The indictment reveals the depth of Green’s deceit, showing he funded the murder with $2,500 stolen from the school, even going so far as to use the school’s address on the package containing the cash sent to Cutler.

This betrayal not only robbed the school of its funds but also its sense of security, with the plot culminating in a devastating loss for the community. Green’s sentencing is set before U.S. District Court Judge Ronnie L. White in the Eastern District of Missouri, marking a sad conclusion to a case that has gripped the nation with its stark reminder of the lengths to which some will go to cover their tracks, even at the expense of innocent lives.
