Former NBA player and Republican Senate candidate Royce White joins former baller Enes Kanter Freedom in declaring for the 2027 WNBA Draft.
As we previously shared, Freedom — who was a first round pick in the 2011 Draft — claimed the league’s eligibility rules for transgender athletes allows him to play. We shared that Freedom cleverly called out the WNBA for potential hypocrisy regarding its trans athletes discourse.
And it appears before Freedom took to the internet on Friday (August 7), another former pro baller, Royce White, had the same idea. Days before Freedom, White — who was a first round pick in the 2012 NBA Draft — first took to his social media to call out the WNBA’s latest rules from trans athletes.
Former NBA Player And Republican Senate Candidate Royce White Declares For 2027 WNBA Draft Amid Trans Athlete Discourse
On August 2, White commented on the controversial conversation around Sophie Cunningham — the Indiana Fever player who went viral for saying “biological men” should not compete in women’s sports. White continued to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft after claiming he was “transgender.” The U.S. Senate candidate for Minnesota said:
“I’m now transgender. I’m going to pursue a career in the WNBA… I identify as a sometimes identifying trans woman. I wish to be treated fairly and don’t want to be discriminated against. This is a serious pursuit. I realize after 35 years, I’m actually a woman. Royce White for U.S. Senate MN 2026. 1st Transgender Senator!”
He continued to troll those responding to him, even again, “I identify as a sometimes identifying transgender woman! My wig is in the mail.” White also spoke with Fox News about his declaration. He also responded to Freedom’s declaration on X, saying they could both play for the same WNBA team.
