In a report by TMZ, Chauvin and his estranged wife, Kellie, were charged on Wednesday with nine felony counts for allegedly failing to pay their state taxes in Minnesota. Officials reported in several court documents that the couple did not file their taxes from 2016 to 2018 in Washington County and had issues dating back to 2014. The couple is also accused of falsely reporting their combined incomes and claimed they were bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars. They also have two homes in Minnesota and Florida along with a BMW that is registered in Florida but has been mostly serviced in Minnesota.

Prosecutors state the couple was discussing their tax problems over the phone while Chauvin was in police custody last month. The recorded conversation revealed that they used Chauvin’s father to handle their taxes and Kellie allegedly said she didn’t want his father to get involved because he will find out that their taxes were not filed for three years.

“Yeah well, we don’t want to get your dad involved because he will just be mad at me I mean us for not doing them for years. . .”
