Former Cardinal Charged With Sex Abuse Of A Minor From 50 Years Ago

Former Cardinal Theodore McCarrck is now facing charges in Massachusetts for allegedly sexually abusing a minor almost 50 years ago, according to CNN.

The unnamed victim reached out to investigators via zoom back in January and explained that McCarrick had been friends with a family member and had evidence of multiple abuse incidents by the former cardinal.

One of the incidents explained were in June 1974 at the victims brothers wedding. The victim states McCarrick pulled him to the side and said, “Your dad wants you to come with me and have a talk. You’re being mischievous at home and not attending church. We need to go outside and have a conversation,” according to the statement.

According to the victim McCarrick demanded the victim to pull down his pants and started to kiss his genitalia while he would say prayers out loud to make him feel holy the victim states. Then after he tells the victim to pull up his pants he makes the boy say certain prayers with him “so God can redeem you of your sins.”
“Historically, this is the first time ever in the United States that a Cardinal has been criminally charged with a sexual crime against a minor,” Garabedian said in a news release. “It takes an enormous amount of courage for a sexual abuse victim to report having been sexually abused to investigators and proceed through the criminal process.” stated by the attorney of McCarrick.
