Former ‘Basketball Wives’ Star Gloria Govan Ordered To Pay $200K In Attorney Fees After Reportedly Refusing To Pay Lawyers Who Handled Her Divorce From Matt Barnes

Gloria Govan better have her coins together because a judge has ordered her to pay almost $200k to the attorneys who represented the TV personality during her divorce from former NBA player Matt Barnes. The couple married back in 2013 but decided to call it quits two years later, during which time Govan is said to have hired the Brot, Gross & Fishbein’s Family Law Services. But the company alleged in their lawsuit that Govan never paid the fees she’d been invoiced, on top of the outstanding attorney costs.

Govan, who has kept a relatively low profile since her departure from “BBW” in 2015, was later tracked down in Las Vegas where a process server gave her a formal notice of initial legal action for the missed payments. But per Radar Online, she never responded to the case, which has since resulted in a default judgment at a Los Angeles Superior Court, where a judge ruled she must pay a total of $197,774.

$10,000 of that sum will go to the attorney fees while the rest will cover debt Govan accumulated from the services which were provided to her amid her divorce battle with the 43-year-old athlete, who officially retired from the NBA in 2017. Following their split, Govan found herself in a nasty divorce battle with her ex as neither party wanted to compromise their needs in the process of reaching a settlement. While Govan was reportedly earning $20,000 a month in child support for her two boys, Carter and Isaiah Barnes, that amount was later reduced to $7500.

Barnes had also previously obtained a restraining order against Govan, as well as being awarded full custody of their boys as the court felt they had reason to believe she may have been dealing with anger management issues and therefore needed to attend parenting classes if things were to get better for Govan — and fortunately they did.

Barnes was enraged upon finding out in 2015 that his ex had started a relationship with former NBA star and basketball coach Derek Fisher, whom she began seeing not long after her divorce with her ex was officially being processed. Understandably, Barnes was upset by the sudden move for Govan to move on with a fellow basketball star, particularly after one of his sons implied that Fisher was always at their home since things fell apart for the family.

“I can’t believe people think I was some maniac driving 95 miles and listening to Tupac to go beat somebody up,” he said. “No. I live 15 minutes away and I was going over to check on my kids because they seemed uncomfortable. That was my main reason for going over there.

In a July 2021 interview on “Cherges With Rex Chapman,” Barnes revealed he has since buried the hatchet with Fisher because it ultimately came down to the well-being of his kids. But from the look of things, Barnes couldn’t seem to complain about Fisher considering he accepted the twin boys as if they are his own.
