Florida Woman Faces Jail Time After Deleting 17,000 Resumes From Employer’s HR Database

A former HR executive is facing up to 15 years in jail after she deleted 17,000 resumes from her former employer’s database after she was terminated from the job.

Medghyne Calonge,41, of Tampa was fired in June 2019 for poor job performance at a New York-based online accounting firm, 1-800-Accountant. According to Market Watch, Calonge also had issues with a colleague and locked them out of the company’s computer system after an argument. Later that day, she logged into the company’s HR system from an outside computer and deleted thousands of resumes plus left explicit messages in other files.

The company reportedly spend over $300,000 within two years to fix the computer system along with an additional $100,000 to have it fully functional again but some files remained lost. Earlier this week, Calonge was convicted of two counts of damaging computers and faces 15 years in prison.

“Her actions wiped out information vitally important to the employer company, and cost the company money and time to repair. Medghyne Calonge intentionally and maliciously caused severe damage to the computers of her former employer. Her actions wiped out information vitally important to the employer company, and cost the company money and time to repair,” said acting  U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Her sentencing is scheduled for December 2. She previously has a conviction for forgery in 2008 and writing a bad check in 2002.
