Over the past two weeks, there have been incidents where individuals approached residential properties in the early morning hours and attempted to break through the front doors by kicking them. According to TOO FAB, the force of these kicks damaged the doors and, in some instances, caused them to burst open entirely.

Local authorities said the teens lived a short walking distance from the homes they targeted. While speaking with investigators, they confessed to participating in the “Door Kick Challenge,” a disturbing trend circulating on social media where kids kick at people’s doors, often causing damage. Although the teens claimed they did not intend to enter any houses, their actions led to serious consequences.

In a statement, Sheriff Al Neinhuis highlighted the extreme danger of social media challenges on the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:

“First, there was a very good possibility that these young men could have been shot and killed by a homeowner lawfully defending the household. Second, if this occurred, the homeowner would have been burdened with the fact he or she killed two teenagers who were participating in a stupid activity.”

The pair was charged with four counts of burglary of a dwelling and were processed at the Hernando County Detention Center. Following their arrest, they were released into the custody of their parents.
