Florida Police Chief Retires Months After Allegedly Blaming COVID-19 Death Of Deputy On Homosexuality

In April, we reported that longtime Davie, Florida police chief Dale Engle was under fire for allegedly blaming the COVID-19 death of a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy on homosexuality. Months later, he’s now retiring after facing scrutiny.

Subsequent to his remarks months ago, Engle was put on administrative leave. His comments stated that BSO Deputy Shannon Bennett died of coronavirus due to him being a “homosexual who attended homosexual ‘sexual’ events. After 22 years as a cop, he is now retiring. It’s reported that leading up to his September 3 retirement start, he will not be working, but will still be paid.

In his resignation letter, Engle writes, “To say that I have been privileged to proudly serve this Town is an understatement. I will cherish the past two plus decades of life and work experiences that have helped define my character, life purpose and ultimately developed me into who I am today. I have been fortunate to have been a member of one of the noblest of professions and have nothing but respect for the pride and professionalism that everyone within the Town of Davie demonstrates every day.”
