A Florida mother has been charged with the murder of her 6-year-old son, whom she reportedly told police she killed as she tried to “exorcise demons” from him in an attempted exorcism.

The mother — identified as 31-year-old Rhonda Paulynice — has been charged with second-degree murder after deputies accuse her of killing her 6-year-old son, Ra’myl Pierre, during an attempted exorcism. The mother is also facing charges for failure to report a death and altering the boy’s dead body, thus pointing to evidence that shows she was preserving her son’s body.
Following Paulynice’s arrest, a judge denied her bond. She remains in jail awaiting trial. According to authorities, the child had been missing from his Fort Pierce elementary school for more than two weeks before his lifeless body was found by police in his bedroom.
Police Say Mother Accused Of Murdering Son In Attempted Exorcism Went From Laughing To Crying During Investigation
Speaking on the murder of the son by his murder, Florida’s St. Lucie County Sheriff Richard Del Toro told the press that on Friday (May 30), a deputy appeared at the home after the school reported the child’s long absence. Del Toro continued:
“From what I understand, this kid just lit the room up and was just loved by everybody and so they’re all going to be having a very difficult time getting through this.”
Authorities believe the woman killed her son on May 18. The child had been missing from school since May 14. Deputies also reported that they had been at the home for a medical issue with the mother just one day before they believe his was killed, on May 17. No one else was living in the home at the time.
Speaking on the the Florida mother and her son, Del Toro continued to explain how she attempted the exorcism. He said:
“She had a lot of highs and lows during the investigation, from laughing at different times at the scene to crying. We did learn and speaking with the mother, she believed she was being told by God to basically exorcize demons out of the child’s body. When the child had stopped moving and basically passed away, at that point, she felt the child had been released of those demons and was waiting for him to basically come back.”
