Florida Man Pays Off Utility Bills Of 114 Struggling Families

This Florida man is back at it again, but not for anything outlandish or crazy. His generosity and holiday spirit has landed him as Florida man of the year!

As we previously reported, back in 2019, Michael Esmond paid over $4,600 in gas and water bills for 36 Gulf Breeze families whose payments were past due. Well, this year he did the same for over 100 families!

Per CNN, Esmond, 74, felt it was his duty to do more due to the effects of the hurricane on Florida and the Coronavirus pandemic.

“This year to me probably is more meaningful than last year with the pandemic and all the people out of work having to stay home,” Esmond said. “Hurricane Sally slammed us pretty good and hurt a lot of people. We still have a lot of the blue roofs here, where they’re just covered with tarps.”

Esmond gave $7,615.40 to the city, which helped 114 families who were facing disconnection of their water, gas and sewer services.

“People can’t afford to pay their bills and put food on the table, so I hope doing my part and paying some bills for these folks takes a little bit of stress off of them around Christmas time,” Esmond added.

Esmond revealed his business was doing well and he felt obliged to give back to the community.

“We’ve had a good year, and that’s why I want to share what I have with the people who need it,” Esmond said.
