Jermaine Bell, 38, was jailed for three years in custody for a robbery that occurred in December 2018 after he brandished a gun at several workers at Millennium Engine Plating. Bell, according to the investigators, pretended to be a courier while performing the crime. Bell reportedly drank the chemical from a white, disposable cup before an officer approached him and requested him to throw it away.  He didn’t sit down, but he kept drinking from the cup as reported by Local 10.

Moments later, Bell developed a severe illness and was sent to a nearby hospital for treatment. His status was described as stable.

His family had questioned why no one didn’t stop him from consuming the bleach and court officials need to be held accountable for the incident.

I see him drinking something that’s not right. His attorneys are letting him drink it. Corrections letting him drink it. All of a sudden I see him collapse. And I said how could this happen,” his relative Reverend Jerome Starling told the outlet.

His cousin also attempted to save him seconds after the incident and said the family thought he was going to pass away in the courtroom.

“I was the only one like that jumped up and tried to get him help,”

The incident is being investigated by Miami-Dade County Corrections and Miami-Dade Police are investigating the incident.
