Florida gubernatorial candidate James Fishback recently announced his proposal of a 50% tax on OnlyFans income, calling it a “Sin Tax” on the “online degeneracy platform.” The Republican politician claimed that with the money, he will “fund our education system, crisis pregnancy centers,” and more. However, OF star Sophie Rain, 21, called the idea the “dumbest thing I’ve ever heard,” adding, “God knows what I am doing.”

In a recent interview with NXR Studios, Fishback, an underdog candidate in Florida’s 2026 GOP primary, promised to impose a “Sin Tax” on OnlyFans creators in Florida. He said:

“As Florida Governor, in year one, I will push for the first-of-its-kind OnlyFans ‘Sin Tax.’ If you are a so-called OnlyFans creator in Florida, you are going to pay 50 percent to the state on whatever you so-called ‘earn’ via that online degeneracy platform. And that money? That money will be used to fund our education system, will be used to fund the crisis pregnancy centers, will be used to fund the first-of-its-kind mental health czar for men in particular, because men have been told for far too long that they are guilty of masculinity. That they are guilty of all of society’s ills. I’m not going to stand for that slanderous lie. What I’m going to do is I am going to end this lie that toxic masculinity is responsible for all these sins and ills of society.

If you’re an OnlyFans model and you reside in Florida, get ready to pay 50 percent of your income to the state. It is called the ‘Sin Tax’ because it is a sin, number one. But, the purpose of the ‘Sin Tax’ in economics is to disincentivize and deter a behavior. And yes, as Florida governor, I don’t want young women, who could otherwise be mothers raising families and rearing children, I don’t want them to be selling their bodies to sick men online. And I don’t want young, impressionable men, who have strayed from Christ, who have strayed from our Lord and Savior, to be told and drawn into lust and have their entire brain rewired.

We will raise hundreds of millions of dollars of income on the OnlyFans ‘Sin Tax.’ And if we don’t raise that income, you know what it’ll mean? It will mean something even greater has materialized for the young women and young men of our state. That the OnlyFans industry, and its supporters, will have been utterly robbed of their ability to rob us, not just of our hard-earned wages, but of our commitment to Christ.”

OnlyFans Model Sophie Rain Slams Florida Gubernatorial Candidate James Fishback After Proposing 50% ‘Sin Tax’ On OnlyFans Income

As Fishback’s proposal went viral, he then shared a direct post targeting OnlyFans model Sophie Rain. He wrote, “Hey @SophieRaiin, Pay up or quit OnlyFans. As Florida Governor, I will not allow a generation of smart and capable young women to sell their bodies online.”

Replying to a post alleging 50% of Rain’s OF earnings is 42 million, Fishback added:

“Sophie is pissed at me because she’s about to pay the State of Florida $42 million in taxes, which I’ll proudly use to increase teacher pay and improve school lunches. I refuse to let smart and capable young women like @SophieRaiin be exploited by OnlyFans and its rapacious owners.”

Fishback responded to another post alleging 50% of the revenue of Florida’s OnlyFans models is $200 million. He said, “$200 million in revenue to increase teacher pay and improve school lunches. Our kids and teaches deserve better.”

In another post, he continued:

“As Florida Governor, I will not let young, smart, and capable women be exploited by OnlyFans. All revenue from Florida’s 50% OnlyFans Tax will increase public school teacher pay and improve school lunches. Our teachers and students deserve better.”

Replying to Fishback’s post tagging her, she replied, “Sounds like you subscribed and got buyers remorse after dropping your annual salary on an OF girl 💀.” Fishback replied:

“Sophie, pay your taxes or quit OnlyFans. Those are your choices. I’m running for Florida Governor to stop smart and capable women like you from being exploited by that disgusting platform.”

Rain replied with a video of her firing back. She said:

“Never in my whole life did I think that I would wake up and see a Florida politician trying to start beef with me for clout. So, he’s proposing a ‘sin tax’ on bops, where we would have to pay 50% to the state, on top of the 37 I already paid to the government. And I would be more than happy to pay that if multi-billion-dollar corporations were also being properly taxed. But surprise, they’re not!

I never usually get into politics, but there are clearly better ways to raise funds from actual corrupt businesses in our country. I think that people also fail to realize that there are so many creators on this platform that do this job because they’re struggling. So, to tax them like that when they are literally doing it just to support their families is sad. I would much rather continue donating directly to people in need because we all really know where I tax dollars go.”

Rain captioned the post, “Targeting a group of individuals using their job to survive when there are multibillion dollar corrupt business that don’t pay any taxes is the insane.”

Fishback replied, “Sophie, pay up. It’s time to give our public school teachers a raise.” She quipped, “And their salaries could easily be tripled by taxing big businesses correctly.” Fishback continued to troll her with a quickly-put-together campaign video. He captioned the post, “Hey @SophieRaiin, pay up. It’s time to raise teacher pay and improve school lunches.”

In the midst of her X beef with James Fishback, Sophie Rain spoke with PEOPLE about his proposed “first-of-its-kind” OnlyFans “sin tax.” She told the publication:

“[It’s] the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of. How do you charge a sin tax to a Christian who hasn’t sinned? No one ever forced me to start an OnlyFans, it was MY decision, so I don’t need a 31-year-old man telling me I can’t sell my body online. I am a Christian, God knows what I am doing, and I know he is happy with me, that’s the only validation I need.

The second that bill gets on the senate floor it will be the ‘last of its kind.’ He is focusing on me because he needs the attention he can get at this point, which, honestly is sad if you think about it. He is first condemning what I do, but at the same time picking me out of the bunch to start some type of viral beef, yeah, no, I don’t think so. He thinks he can go after the biggest, but lets see how that turns out for him.

Also, why are you taxing the creator, why not the subscriber?! By that logic, this makes no sense. Florida is OnlyFans central. You are just going to drive them out of the state, then what? Fishback is going to go after a group of people who work very hard for their money, just because he himself is against it, is wrong. I feel like it’s also a constitutional violation.”
