Florida Cop Praised After Rescuing Woman From Jumping Off Overpass
Lana Checkak, a Pensacola, Florida cop is being praised after rescuing a woman from jumping off an overpass, and the entire tense situation was captured on the officer’s body cam.
After responding to a report of a woman sitting on the rail of the Cervantes Street Bridge, Checkak arrived to the scene to save the woman. Via body cam footage, viewers see Checkak identify herself as a Pensacola police officer, and the woman is seen visibly shaken up and crying.

Moments after Checkak asks the woman if she’s alright and she inaudibly responds, the woman out of nowhere tries to climb the railing, but the officer quickly reacts and pulls her down, demanding she follow orders and roll over to safety. Law enforcement officials say the woman was then taken into protective custody and evaluated in a mental facility. She will not be arrested or charged with anything and has sustained zero injuries.
