A K-12 Christian school in Verico has emailed parents of gay, transgender, and nonbinary students that their children will be asked to leave as it condemns their “lifestyle.”

The email was issued by administrator Barry McKeen at Grace Christian School, which reads, “We believe that God created mankind in His image: male (man) and female (woman), sexually different but with equal dignity. Therefore, one’s biological sex must be affirmed, and no attempts should be made to physically change, alter, or disagree with one’s biological gender.” According to Insider, the email included cited verses from the Bible, and McKeen claimed the texts condemned the “elective sex reassignment, transvestite, transgender, or non-binary gender fluid acts of conduct.” Additionally, McKee said the students would be referred to their assigned gender at birth and their birth name.

At the end of the message, McKeen said any students “participating in these lifestyles will be asked to leave the school immediately” and noted that parents must agree to the policy before school starts in August.

“We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, transgender identity/lifestyle, self-identification, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery and pornography are sinful in the sight of God and the church (Genesis 2:24; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-29; I Corinthians 5:1; I Corinthians 6:9; I Thessalonians 4:2-7),”

NBC said in their report that the policy is nothing new, but McKeen said he chose not to speak to reporters and confirmed the school’s policy in a statement to the outlet.

“It is true that a student can not come to our school … and be transgender or homosexual. This is rooted in scriptures. God has spoken on those issues, explicitly, aggressively, and we have had these policies in our school since day number one in the early 1970s. This is not new. We are not a hateful group of people. We don’t hate students who are of a particular persuasion.”

The email was reportedly revealed after the family of a 16-year-old female student came out as gay and transferred her to another school that was more accepting of the LGBTQIA community.

“It’s not like my daughter goes around wearing rainbow flags or anything like that. But I’m not going to have her feel ashamed of herself for any reason.”

Social media reacts to the school’s policy and shares different opinions

In reaction to Grace School’s policy, many feel that the students shouldn’t be excluded from the campus based on their sexuality.
