NYPD officers are currently on the search for a five-year-old boy who fell into the East River after climbing a tree on Randall’s Island.

Investigators identified the child as Brenden Mitchell, 5, and he was last seen by his brother around 2:30 p.m. Saturday on Randall’s Island. Mitchell was seen floating away before going under and has remained missing since. After he fell into the water, Mitchell’s parents and another adult jumped in to rescue the boy but were unable to locate him. Luis Ramos told the New York Post he was coaching soccer when he noticed Mitchell’s arm sticking out of the water, “The last thing I saw was an arm sticking out.”

The incident occurred when Mitchell and his family were hanging out at Harlem River Field 7 and the water was at low tide at the time.

On Sunday, investigators and divers are still searching for the boy and are scaling the waters from Harlem to the Bronx in hopes of finding more clues.
