Five People Killed In Car Accident On Interstate While Heading To A Funeral

A group of five people from Tennessee who was on their way to a funeral in Chicago were killed in a crash on Interstate 57.

According to WSBTV, the driver and four passengers were killed Thursday around 1:30 p.m. when their SUV crashed into the back of a semitrailer. Only one passenger from the SUV and the truck driver survived the accident. Illinois State Police reported that the crash occurred near the West Frankfort exit on Interstate 57.

The deceased from the crash were identified as Coraleen A. Luellen,78; Peggy Jackson Armstrong, 75; Helen Elizabeth Armstrong, 78, and Harold Edward Armstrong,76. The  SUV driver was identified as 80-year-old Magnolia G. Armstrong. The survivor of the SUV crash was 59-year-old Andrea E.Lesure and she is currently receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck was identified as 38-year-old Dawit Tekeste Gerbmicheal of Houston.

Friend of the family, Quincy Jones, said in a statement that the group was on their way to a funeral in Chicago. The investigation is ongoing as reported by Illinois State Police.
