After all the trash talking and big hype, Ryan Garcia was ultimately defeated after getting in the ring with Gervonta “Tank” Davis.
Saturday night’s game started off with a smooth first round with light taps from both boxers. However, things started to heat up around the second round as Tank managed to knock down Garcia with an uppercut. While it looked like the game was going to continue strong, it all came to an end during the 7th round when Tank hit him with a body shot, leaving Garcia on one knee and unable to get back up to fight.

“The first knockdown was just him not knowing his placement and I knew that I was the smaller guy, and my coach was telling me in camp that he’s going to come up with his head up, so just shoot over the top,” said Davis after the game.
While watching the playback, Tank added, “I didn’t think that body shot would end it, but I saw his facial expression and that’s what made me take it to him,” Davis said. “It was a good shot, for sure. I thought he was going to get up but I like to play mind games, so when he was looking at me, I was looking at him trying to tell him, ‘Get up!’. And he just shook his head, no.”
Despite being defeated, Garcia gave Davis his props for finishing the job.
“He just caught me with a good shot,” Garcia said. “I don’t want to make any excuses in here. He caught me with a good shot and I just couldn’t recover and that’s it. He caught me with a good body shot, snuck under me and caught me good. I couldn’t breathe. I was going to get back up, but I just couldn’t get up.”
The 28-year-old from Baltimore, Maryland, has won five world titles in the super-featherweight, lightweight and super-lightweight classes. Now, he boasts a 29-0 record with 27 knockouts. Clearly, with Davis winning this huge fight, there’s going to be no shortage of contenders that would like to square off with the power star and the payday that comes with it.
