Demonstrations for trans rights turned violent after a viral video uploaded by a woman who was upset when a transgender woman was changing in the women’s room at a spa.

The demonstrations took place early Saturday afternoon in front of the Wi Spa in Koreatown and LAPD declared them to be an “unlawful assembly.’ A man wearing a blue “OBEY JESUS” shirt was attacked after he pushed a counter-protestor in addition to being hit with a skateboard. Moments later, the scene erupted in chaos among protestors and police officers.
Prior to the demonstration, a video was uploaded by one of the spa’s customers who was outraged when a transgender woman was changing in the women’s room. She said in the video,” So, itâs OK for a man to go into the womenâs section, show his penis around the other women, young little girls â underage â in your spa? Wi Spa condones that, is that what youâre saying?âÂ

Another customer was also complaining about the situation which led to the demonstrations the following day. Wi Spa also released a statement in reference to the video and said their main priority is to ensure the safety of their customers regardless of their identity.
“As a spa located in Los Angeles, Wi Spa complies with California law prohibiting discrimination by a business, including the Civil Code provision set forth above. Like many other metropolitan areas, Los Angeles contains a transgender population, some of whom enjoy visiting a spa. Wi Spa strives to meet the needs and safety of all of its customers, and does not tolerate harassment or lewd conduct by any customer, regardless of their sex, gender, or other characteristics.â
