Two Asian women were attacked Sunday evening after a female suspect asked them to remove their masks in New York City.

The violent attack was captured on surveillance footage where 31-year-old Theresa and her friend were walking in Manhattan’s Hell’s Kitchen when a woman asked them to remove their masks. According to PEOPLE, Theresa said the woman appeared to be talking to herself until she said “Take off your f— mask.” In the video clip, the woman approaches the pair and strikes Theresa repeatedly with a hammer after they attempted to stay out of her way.
NYPD investigators reported Theresa sustained lacerations after being struck on the head and received seven stitches at the hospital.

Theresa added that she was staying in Taiwan with her parents and her mother warned her about the anti-Asian attacks that were taking place in the United States.

Police are still on the lookout for the suspect who was last seen wearing an all-black outfit with a short haircut.
