Father Of Teen Accused Of Fatally Stabbing Texas High School Football Star Says Son ‘Was Not The Aggressor,’ Victim’s Father Forgives Suspect

The father of a teen accused of fatally stabbing a Texas high school football star says his son “was not the aggressor” while the victim’s father admits he forgives the suspect.

On Wednesday (April 2), 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony was arrested and charged with first-degree murder for allegedly killing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, leaving him to die in his twin brother Hunter Metcalf’s arms. The incident occurred at a track meet — where the boys’ schools both met — in Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

Metcalf’s heartbroken father, Jeff Metcalf, told NBC Dallas-Forth Worth, “He’s a good kid. He works two jobs. He’s an A student, has a 3.7 GPA.” Karmelo, a senior at Centennial High School, alleges Austin told him he was sitting in the wrong seat before allegedly pulling a knife on the athlete. Karmelo allegedly stabbed Austin in the chest as his identical twin brother watched in horror and ran over to help.

Hunter told WFAA, “I tried to whip around as fast as I could. I looked at my brother and I’m not going to talk about the rest. I tried to help him.” Jeff Metcalf said:

“They were twins, identical twins, and his brother was holding on to him, trying to make it stop bleeding, and he died in his brother’s arms. I could see all the blood, and I saw where the wound was, and I was very concerned, so I had to find his brother, and we rushed to the hospital. And we prayed, and it’s God’s plan, I don’t understand it, but they weren’t able to save him. This is murder.”

Frisco Police said, “Despite lifesaving measures by police and fire personnel, including CPR and the administration of blood, the [17]-year-old died.” He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Reportedly, the teen suspect, who is being held on a $1 million bond, asked if Austin was okay during his arrest.

Father Of Texas High School Football Star Fatally Stabbed Forgives Teen Suspect

On April 3, Karmelo’s father, Andrew Anthony, told The New York Post he’s “a good kid,” but provoked by violence. Andrew said, “Everyone has already made their assumptions about my son, but he’s not what they’re making him out to be. He was not the aggressor. He was not the one who started it.”

Andrew said his son’s actions were a heat-of-the-moment mistake. He added, “I feel bad for the other parents and family, and words can’t explain how both [families] have been affected by this tragedy.” Although Karmelo admitted to the incident, he also claimed that it was not all his fault, claiming self-defense.

Meanwhile, Austin Metcalf’s grieving father questions Karmelo Anthony’s upbringing and parents as he forgave his son’s alleged killer. He said:

“I’m not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart. The guy was in the wrong place and they asked him to move and he bowed up [became angry and aggressive]. This is murder. You know what, I already forgive this person. Already. God takes care of things. God is going to take care of me. God is going to take care of my family.”
