Father Of Slain 4-Year-Old Cash Gernon Says He Paid “The Ultimate Price” By Leaving Son With Ex

The case of murdered 4-year-old Cash Gernon gets more mysterious each day, and now his missing father, Trevor Gernon has finally reappeared and is speaking out about his son’s death.

He claims he paid the “ultimate price” by abandoning his son with his ex-girlfriend so that he could skip town and avoid arrest. Monica Sherwood had been looking after the boys in Dallas in March. Trevor reportedly left for Houston after failing to find a job and needing to appear in court on drug charges.

In a statement posted to his sister’s Youtube channel, he didn’t disclose his location but spoke out about why he left his sons.

“This choice I made with best intentions has resulted in the most horrific outcome I have paid the ultimate and painful price for my poor judgment I have to live with this every day I will never forgive myself,” Trevor Gernon said. “This is a nightmare.”

“I thought it was in the boys’ best interest to not disrupt their routine. They were comfortable, around other kids and [from] what it appeared, Monica was trustworthy.”

“I understand how Mindy and Connie [Cash’s maternal grandmother] could be upset and want to do and say things to me because he was in my care,” he added.

“If it had happened in my care, I’d hold her responsible too. Mindy, I am so sorry that I failed to keep him safe. That was my job as a dad and I wasn’t able to do that. I’m sorry.”

As we reported, Darriynn Brown, 18, who is familiar with Sherrod’s family, was charged with kidnapping and burglary in relation to the crime, however, police are still investigating the forensics. Brown’s mother believes that he is being framed as the circumstances are suspicious.
