According to 2023 interview transcripts recently released by police, the alleged Apalachee High School shooter Colt Gray was constantly bullied before the school shooting on Wednesday (September 4).
In the 2023 police transcripts, Mr. Gray said his son has “gone through a lot.” He continued, “[Colt] just wants us to have a simple life. All that like, he should be excited about getting into 8th grade. It just was very difficult for him to go to school and not get picked on by, you know, it went from one thing to another to, you know, he was talking to the couple friends he has.”
During the call, which was taken by Investigator Dan Miller in 2023, Mr. Gray had depicted his child as a victim, as someone who had been constantly picked on and “ridiculed” by his peers. Speaking on his son, the Georgia school shooting suspect, Mr. Gray said, “I was trying to get him on the golf team … like, ‘Oh look Colt’s gay. He’s dating that guy.’ Just ridiculed him day after day after day.”
Tragically, this past week, Colt Gray allegedly opened fire on his high school in Winder, just outside Atlanta, killing four people (two students and two teachers) and injuring at least nine others. He has since been arrested and is being charged as an adult. He is facing four counts of felony murder, with a potential of additional charges.
Additionally, the teenage suspect’s father, Colin Gray, has also been arrested for gifting his son the AR-15-style rifle, that was allegedly used in the crime, for a previous Christmas.
Prosecutors have also charged the father with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children. He faces up to 180 years in prison if convicted. Currently, they are being held at Barrow County Jail.
