The family of ‘Empire’ star Bryshere Gray is clarifying reports alleging that he beat up a man in an argument over a “payment dispute” involving a hotel bill.
Bryshere Gray Accused Of Assault And Battery Of Man At Virginia Hotel
As we previously shared on Monday (June 16), actor Bryshere Gray was arrested and charged with one misdemeanor count of assault and battery after having an altercation over a hotel payment. Authorities took him into custody on Sunday (June 15) and shortly after, he bonded out of jail. He is due back in court for arraignment on Wednesday (June 18).
According to a criminal complaint obtained by TMZ, Gray allegedly lunged at a man and punched him at a hotel last Friday (June 13). The incident occurred at a Homewood Suites hotel in Chesapeake, Virginia. A man named Dustin Wilkins, aka “Chosen,” claimed he was trying to help his friend, Gray, with a payment dispute at the hotel.

Wilkins said he told Gray that he couldn’t just leave the hotel without paying for his stay. Wilkins said he tried to tell Gray, his close friend, that he had plenty of other issues to worry about and this wasn’t worth adding to the long list. He said he tried to “save” the actor’s life, but all of his reasoning only further angered Gray.
Subsequently, Wilkins claimed Gray “charged” at him from around his car. He then claimed the actor plowed into him with his shoulder, nearly knocking him to the ground. He also claims Gray was beating him up while also recording the incident on his phone. Then, he alleges the actor hit him with a “blunt blow” and at least one punch.
Bryshere Gray’s Family Speaks After His Assault And Battery Arrest In Virginia
Since the incident, the family of Bryshere Gray told TMZ:
“Bryshere and the family are still trying to understand everything from this past weekend. Bryshere appreciates all the well wishes as he resumes working on his mental health. Both Bryshere and Chosen (Dustin) are doing fine. Mr. Gray loves all his fans and supporters. Their friendship is equivalent to brothers & this was not a payment dispute. This was an issue concerning Bryshere’s safety and health. We kindly ask for privacy as we are all working to find peace and move on from this matter.”
