Facebook Closes London Offices As Employee Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Social media giant Facebook is playing zero games as they close three of its London offices after a visiting employee from Singapore tested positive for coronavirus.

Additionally, the company has closed the offices from Friday afternoon (Mar. 6) through Monday (Mar. 9) for deep cleaning, per an official statement released.

It reads, “An employee based in our Singapore office who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 visited our London offices 24-26 February 2020. We are therefore closing our London offices until Monday for deep cleaning and employees are working from home until then.”

Furthermore, for those who came into direct contact with the infected employee, they’ve been asked to self-isolate and actively monitor themselves for any symptoms relating to the deadly virus.

As for further news of the virus in the U.K., the number of cases has risen from 115 to 163 on Friday, per the Department of Health. So, far the highest jump they’ve seen has been a reported 48 cases in just on e single day.

Additionally, the country reported its first virus-related death on Thursday (Mar 5) — being a woman in her 70s, with prior heath issues. She passed in a Reading hospital.

Addressing the nation, Prime Minister Boris Johnson stated, “Keeping the British people safe is my number one priority, and that’s why I’ve set out our four-part plan to contain, delay, mitigate and research coronavirus. We are ensuring the country is prepared for the current outbreak, guided by the science at every stage. But we also need to invest now in researching the vaccines that could help prevent future outbreaks. I’m very proud that U.K. experts – backed by government funding – are on the front line of global efforts to do just that.”
