While the third season of “Euphoria” has yet to commence production, one person who won’t be returning to the hit HBO show is Barbie Ferreira, who announced her departure from the series on Wednesday night. The 25-year-old became a breakout star playing Kat Hernandez for two seasons, but in a surprise turn of events, Ferreira took to her Instagram Story last night, telling fans that she won’t be reprising the role.

“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary eyed goodbye,” she captioned her Story post, which was accompanied with the first fan art drawing she received of her character. “I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today,” Ferreira’s message continued. “I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it.”

Back in February, it was alleged that Ferreira had fallen out with the show’s creator Sam Levinson while filming season two — and things were said to have gotten so bad between the two that, according to The Daily Beast, the actress ended up storming off the set during one particular quarrel. While Ferreira vehemently denied these claims, her sudden exit has fans wondering whether there may have been some truth to the report after all.

In March, the New Yorker addressed allegations of a feud with Levinson, telling Insider that the supposed rumor had taken on a life of its own and that people shouldn’t be too quick to believe everything they read, which insinuated that things were far from hostile between the pair. “I really think that the fans are really passionate and I do appreciate that because ‘Euphoria’ has really impacted so many people,” she explained.

“Sometimes, things take on a life of their own, and they’re not rooted in the truth, but it’s OK because I know it’s just out of passion and out of curiosity and all that good stuff. And I signed up for it. So, I’ll take it. I’ll take the good and the bad.”

“Euphoria,” which is co-produced by rapper Drake, premiered back in 2019 and became an instant hit, with season two going on to amass an average of 16 million viewers, per TheWrap. The show has also been recognized by a string of award shows, including the Emmys, with its lead star Zendaya making history last month after receiving four nominations for her work on the show.
