Yikes! Another reporter has been canned from a major network! It is now being reported that ESPN national baseball reporter Marly Rivera has been fired after calling another reporter the c-word, while they both tried to get an interview with Yankees player Aaron Judge.
ESPN Reporter Marly Rivera Fired After Calling Another Reporter The C-Word While Trying To Interview Yankees Player Aaron Judge
Per The New York Post, the c-word incident happened last Tuesday (April 18) before the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels game in the Bronx, New York.
According to the news publication, Marly Rivera — who has been a dugout reporter on the Home Run Derby, a reporter on some ‘Sunday Night Baseball‘ telecasts, and an ESPN Radio MLB playoff game analyst — was at the Yankee Stadium when she hurled out the words, “f***ing c**t,” at another female reporter as they both tried to get an interview with Yankees player Aaron Judge.
According to ESPN sources who spoke with the outlet, the bilingual reporter has been canned. The source stated, “She no longer works here.”
The outlet explains that last Tuesday at the Yankee Stadium, sometime before the Yankees-Angeles game, Rivera and freelance reporter Ivón Gaete got into a disagreement when Gaete showed up to interview Aaron Judge, who Rivera was already set to speak with.
Rivera noted that she had already locked in a time to conduct the interview, having spoken directly with the Yankee captain about it. She claimed that she repeatedly tried to explain to Gaete that she had already set up a time to speak with Judge, but Gaete ignored her.
Somewhere along the back and forth, things continued to get heated and Rivera got caught up in the moment and blurted out the words “f***ing c**t.” Unfortunately, Rivera’s obscene language during the tense exchange was caught on video.
Following the incident, Rivera attempted to issue an apology, but Gaete was NOT here for Rivera nor her apology. It is also noted that Gaete is the wife of MLB Vice President of Communications John Blundell, and she was on site freelancing for Tokyo Broadcasting.
Now, according to Rivera, she and Gaete’s husband, John Blundell, have had several disagreements over the years, which she believes is why this particular argument with Gaete escalated the way it did, and ended with her losing her job at ESPN.

Speaking with The New York Post, Rivera said, “I fully accept responsibility for what I said, which I should not have. There were extenuating circumstances but that in no way is an excuse for my actions. I am a professional with a sterling reputation across baseball and I do believe that I am being singled out by a group of individuals with whom I have a long history of professional disagreements.”
