Eminem Sends Cease & Desist To Republican Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy: ‘Stop Rapping My Songs On Your Campaign Trail’

Oop! Eminem has had enough as he sends a cease and desist letter to Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, urging him to stop rapping his songs on his campaign trail…OR ELSE!

Clearly, Slim Shady is not here for Ramaswamy using his songs and rapping along to one of his biggest hits on his campaign trail to the White House. After catching wind of the Ramaswamy rapping along to “Lose Yourself,” Em wants the GOP presidential candidate to lose his music.

It is reported that Em let his music licenser BMI know that he wants Ramaswamy to be stopped in his tracks and stop using his material to go viral. Em’s reaction arrives after the Republican candidate rapped along to Em’s Oscar-winning song while on stage at the Iowa State Fair earlier this month.

While standing alongside Iowa’s Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds, Ramaswamy entertained an early morning crowd that gathered to hear him speak. And what they got was much more than what they bargained for. Governor Reynolds ended up asking the 38-year-old GOP presidential candidate, and biotech entrepreneur, what his favorite walkout song was. He eagerly answered that it was Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.”

Soon after, the sound engineer at the event got Ramaswamy fired up as he began blasting the 2002 rap hit. The Republican presidential candidate grabbed a microphone and literally just lost himself in the moment. A spokesperson for his campaign told Daily Mail, after receiving the cease and desist, “Vivek just got on the stage and cut loose. To the American people’s chagrin, we will have to leave the rapping to the real Slim Shady.”

After Em reached out to BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) representatives, the company issued a First Class cease and desist letter to Ramaswamy and his campaign lawyer last week. The letter, obtained by Daily Mail, shows a date of August 23, 2023, which arrives 11 days after Ramaswamy’s Iowa State Fair performance.

It begins, “This letter serves as notice to you pursuant to the bMI Music License for Political Entities or Organizations entered into by Broadcast Music, Inc. (“BMI”) and Vivek 2024 on May 24, 2023 (the “Agreement”) that BMI has received a communication from Marshall B. Mathers, III, professionally known as Eminem, objecting to the Vivek Ramaswamy campaign’s use of Eminem’s musical compositions (the “Eminem Works”) and requesting that BMI remove all Eminem Works from the Agreement.”

The letter, signed by Pamela Williams, concludes, “As such, pursuant to Paragraph 2(a) of the Agreement, this letter serves as notice that the Eminem Works are excluded from the Agreement effective immediately. BMI will consider any performance of the Eminem Works by the Vivek 2024 campaign from this date forward to be a material breach of the Agreement for which BMI reserves all rights and remedies with respect thtereto.”

Elsewhere, it is noted that Vivek Ramaswamy has been a longtime fan of Eminem, and even used to perform libertarian-themed rap songs under the stage name of “Da Vek” during his undergraduate years at Harvard University. Earlier this month, the GOP presidential candidate told The New York Times, “I did not grow up in the circumstances he did. But the idea of being an underdog, people having low expectations of you, that part speaks to me.”

Ramaswamy added that Eminem, a white Hip-Hop icon, is a “guy in every sense who was not supposed to be doing what he did.”
