Elon Musk’s colony on Mars will reportedly follow their own set of laws and policies and won’t recognize Earth-based laws.

According to the New York Post, Musk’s Space X also plans to use constellations of satellites to provide internet connection and won’t follow international laws. The terms of service regarding governing law states, “For services provided on Mars, or in transit to Mars via Starship or other colonization spacecraft, the parties recognize Mars as a free planet and that no Earth-based government has authority or sovereignty over Martian activities,”

In addition, the section claims certain issues will be settled through self-governing principles established by the Mars colony. However, “earthlings” who decide to live on the moon and use Space X’s internet must follow California’s laws.

A date for the colonization of Mars has yet to be announced but Musk said during a press conference that he hopes to create a self-sustaining city before the start of “World War 3.”

“This really might come down to: Are we going to create a self-sustaining city on Mars before or after World War 3,”
