Elon Musk went on his social media platform X on Monday to express his concerns regarding the partnership. “If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies. That is an unacceptable security violation,” he wrote. The Tesla and Space X CEO added that visitors must check their Apple devices with security and store them in a Faraday cage. In another post, he continued criticizing Apple, saying it was “absurd” that they weren’t smart enough to create their own AI but felt confident in OpenAI to protect user security and privacy.

According to CNBC, Apple explained in a statement that it uses its own AI, and its integration with OpenAI is an optional feature. Earlier today, CEO Tim Cook announced that OpenAI would be part of an update for Apple’s voice assistant Siri. Apple stated that OpenAI will be accessed through its ChatGPT chatbot, and users will be asked permission to share their questions. Their information will not be logged.

“Our unique approach combines generative AI with a user’s personal context to deliver truly helpful intelligence. And it can access that information in a completely private and secure way to help users do the things that matter most to them. This is AI as only Apple can deliver it, and we can’t wait for users to experience what it can do,” Cook said in a statement on Apple’s website.

Musk also responded to a tweet under Cook’s post regarding Apple’s announcement. “Don’t want it. Either stop this creepy spyware or all Apple devices will be banned from the premises of my companies.”

Musk reportedly raised $6 billion for his potential AI called xAI, which is seen as a competitor to ChatGPT. It’s first product, Grok, is used on the X platform.
