Elon Musk Donating 1,000+ Ventilators For Los Angeles Coronavirus Relief
After he referred to the panic as “dumb,” Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is now donating over 1,200 Chinese-made ventilators to Los Angeles for coronavirus relief.
The tech pioneer stated, “China had an oversupply, so we bought 1255 FDA-approved ResMed, Philips & Medtronic ventilators on Friday night & airshipped them to LA. If you want a free ventilator installed, please let us know!”

Confirming Musk’s word, California Gov. Gavin Newsom told reporters on Monday (Mar 23), “They arrived in Los Angeles and Elon Musk is already working with the hospital association and others to get those ventilators out in real time. It’s an heroic effort.”
In addition to his donation, Musk shared that his two companies, Tesla and SpaceX are looking into ventilator manufacturing themselves.

Before his ventilator donations, previously, Musk also took steps to import medical masks to alleviate their shortage during the pandemic. He told Twitter, “We have a mask shipment stuck at LAX. Hopefully freed up soon.”
A day later, the airport tweeted, “OK, after some additional investigating we’ve found that this shipment has since been cleared for release by the FDA. LAX, U.S. Customs and the FDA are all working together to expedite critical PPE shipments. Glad to hear it’s resolved.”
We expect to have over ~1200 to distribute this week. Getting them delivered, installed & operating is the harder part.
