A new Elon Musk, 52, biography released confirms that the serial entrepreneur welcomed a third child with his ex, Canadian musician Grimes, 35. The former couple have named third child Techno Mechanicus.
According to a New York Times review, Musk’s forthcoming biography revealed that the Tesla CEO had a previously unreported third child with his ex, Grimes, born Claire Boucher. It’s reported that the former couple tried to keep the existence of their third child private, and that Musk now has a total of 11 children (ten living, one deceased) with three different women.
In the new Elon Musk biography, releasing next week and written by journalist Walter Isaacson, it is revealed that the child has been named Techno Mechanicus, but goes by the nickname of “Tau.” The child’s age has not yet been made public, and the gender has not been confirmed. In addition to Tau, Musk and Grimes share two other children.
The former couple first announced their relationship in May 2018, after “quietly dating” for a few weeks. They would then have a series of breakups and makeups before announcing in March 2020 that they were expecting their first child together. In May 2020, Grimes would give birth to their first child, a boy named X Æ A-12 Musk.
The couple would later amend his name to “X Æ A-Xii” due to California naming laws. His nickname is “X.” In late 2020, Musk announced that he had left Grimes in California and moved to Texas for his businesses; this would soon put a strain on their relationship. Then in September 2021, Musk updated Page Six about how he and Grimes were “semi-separated,” but still loved each other and were on great terms.

Then in March 2022, Grimes revealed that she and Musk had welcomed another child together via surrogate in December 2021. They had a baby girl named Exa Dark Sideræl Musk, who goes by “Y” for short. Vanity Fair had made the reveal, and Grimes also updated her relationship status and said, “I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time.”
Grimes had also mentioned that she and Musk planned to have one or two more kids together; but after the interview was published, Grimes said she and Musk had already broken up again. Since then, the couple have moved on with different people.
