Ellen DeGeneres & Portia De Rossi Mansion Burglary Was ‘Inside Job’
Last month, we reported that police responded to a mansion burglary at the $27 million Montecito, California residence of Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia De Rossi. At the time, cops confirmed the couple was inside during the incident and that they were attacked due to their “celebrity status.” Now, they update that the July 4 burglary was an “inside job.”
In a newsletter from the Montecito Association, sent to residents — which includes Oprah Winfrey and most recently Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — on August 12 to calm everyone, a local sheriff reports that the crime was “inside job,” and that they should not be alarmed about anymore robberies in the area.

The letter reads, “If it had been a case of outsiders coming in and breaking and entering, I’d have alerted you to be on the lookout and lock up everything. According to our very helpful Sheriff Lt Arnoldi, that appears to be an inside job.” Additionally, the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office PIO reports there are no other updates in this case, but are continuing to investigate.
While a total value hasn’t been attached to the missing items, the newsletter also adds that the neighborhood has “had to deal with people coming into the area, casing our properties, and breaking and entering.” They continue, “We’ve gotten far more vigilant about this, and now we question strange vehicles on our streets, camping at our trails, and other incursions that may not be good for the community.”
