Ellen DeGeneres Apologetic Season 18 Debut Sees Highest Premiere Ratings Since 2016
While making an apologetic return for season 18 on Monday (Sept. 21), this following much backlash for hosting a toxic workplace, Ellen DeGeneres is now seeing her show’s highest premiere ratings since 2016.
Over the summer, DeGeneres was blasted by non-stop allegations of a toxic workplace culture, which goes against her “be kind” mantra. Keeping her word in formerly and publicly addressing the accusations, DeGeneres opened S18’s first episode by acknowledging the claims, apologizing to victims and fans at home, and noting how things will be better this go-round.

Opening the episode, DeGeneres stated:
“As you may have heard this summer, there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show and then there was an investigation. I learned that things happened here that never should’ve happened. I take that very seriously, and I want to say I’m so sorry to the people who were affected. I know that I’m in a position of privilege and power and I realized that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens at my show.”
