El Chapo’s Wife Receives Three Year Prison Sentence For Assisting Cartel’s

El Chapo’s wife will be joining him in prison! While she might not be locked up in the same U.S. super-max prison where he is serving life, she’ll be serving three years behind bars and 48 months of supervised release.

As we reported, the  former beauty queen turned drug lord’s wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro pleaded guilty to three federal counts in connection with  El Chapo’s Sinaloa drug cartel in Mexico. She admitted to helping assist with her husband’s cartel.

“The defendant’s actual role was a minimal one,” prosecutor Anthony Nardozzi said. “The defendant acted primarily in support of her husband. The defendant acted upon his orders, which, in turn, furthered the interests of the criminal cartel. The defendant was not an organizer, leader, boss or other type of manager. Rather, she was a cog in a very large wheel of a criminal organization.”

Emma was lucky as she did not have any prior criminal conviction she was able to avoid the minimum ten year sentence.

Following sentencing, Fox News reports that D.C. District Court Judge Rudolph Contreras said that the conditions of the prison in which she was held at during the pandemic prior to her sentencing were “harsher than they would have been” in pre-pandemic times “and will continue to be harsh for the foreseeable future.”
