El Chapo’s wife Arrested on Drug Trafficking Charges

It seems like it runs in the family! 

The wife of the notorious convicted drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was arrested on Monday for her alleged role in an international drug trafficking ring.

According to NBC News, 31-year-old Emma Coronel Aispuro was arrested at Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C., for conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana. She is also being accused of aiding in her husband’s escape from a Mexican prison in July 2015.

“Emma Coronel Aispuro, 31, a dual U.S.-Mexican citizen, of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, was arrested today at Dulles International Airport,” according to the Justice Department release. “She is scheduled to make her initial appearance in federal court tomorrow in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia via video conference.”

His wife is expected virtually appear in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia during an initial court appearance on Tuesday.

El Chapo is currently serving a life sentence in prison.
