According to The Beacon Journal, the girl was identified as Mikayla Pickett and the shooting took place on Roselle Avenue near Manchester Road around 11:48 p.m. The party was hosted by 62-year-old Willie Walker who said he was celebrating his 15-year-old grandson’s birthday in his backyard. He stated things were going well at the party when three or four people showed up and started shooting at his family members and friends.

After the shooting, Pickett was transported to the Akron Children’s Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries and investigators believe she was shot in the back. Walker said he didn’t know Pickett prior to the shooting.
