The former Spice Girl, full name Melanie Brown, filed court documents about two years ago, requesting for additional monies due to a decrease in income.

This was back in October 2020, just over ten years after Murphy was first ordered to pay Brown $25,000 a month ($300,000 a year) in their February 2009 paternity settlement.

Two years ago, the singer claimed her income had “dramatically reduced,” therefore she needed to revisit her agreement with Murphy.

In addition to demanded he hand over his income and expense accounting, she also asked that her former partner pay for the fees of her attorneys, Erica Lubans and Bruce Cooperman.

At the time, Brown’s attorneys said, “Until recently, Melanie has been fortunate in her career to sustain a comfortable lifestyle for herself and Angel. Unfortunately, Melanie’s income has dramatically reduced, such that she must consider modifying child support for the first time.”

They added that they have made “numerous efforts to resolve the case without court intervention [but] without any success, [so] Melanie was left with no choice but to file.”

According to DailyMail, Murphy has since been deemed an “extraordinarily high earner” and is now being required to pay an additional $10,000 monthly, totaling $35,000 a month in child support.

The site claims that the documents, with stipulations dated relevant as of August 17, also note that the new monthly payments are to be paid retroactively, beginning from October 2021 up until the former couple’s daughter turns 18 years old.

Additionally, Murphy has agreed to again cover all of Brown’s attorney fees. This time totaling $10,000. The court documents read:

“The parties agree that Respondent (Murphy) is an “extraordinarily high earner.’

The amount of child support set forth hereinbelow has been calculated based on the reasonable needs of the minor child.

Commencing October 1, 2021, as and for child support for the benefit of Angel, Respondent shall pay to Petitioner the sum of $35,000 per month.

Child support shall be payable via wire transfer, and shall be due on the first calendar day of each month.”

Furthermore, Brown will be responsible for all “add-on” costs for Angel. These expenses include: healthcare; health insurance; extracurricular activities; educational expenses; etc.

A final note clarifies that Murphy and Brown’s agreement is a “non-guideline child support order,” in that “a material change of circumstances” will not be required for any additional changes.
