In a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Drew Barrymore revealed that she’s been warned to “back off” during her interviews.

During a conversation with Cynthia Erivo on Tuesday, Drew Barrymore admitted that she has been advised to tone down her physical interactions with her celebrity guests, according to TOO FAB. “People have to warn me, saying, ‘Back off a little bit,’ and I’m like, ‘Why?’”she explained. This topic arose as Erivo and Barrymore discussed the actress’s friendship with her Wicked co-star, Ariana Grande. Barrymore inquired about Erivo’s bond with Grande, noting that various press interviews have showcased the actresses sharing a strong physical connection.

If it’s not like connected, I’m like, ‘What’s wrong? What’s happening? Where are you?'” Erivo explained, revealing how she and Grande make physical touch a key part of their communication. “Sometimes you can’t say anything and you’re in a room, and it’s just a squeeze of a hand,” Erivo added. She also discussed the stigmas surrounding physical touch, as many associate it with romantic relationships.

Barrymore also reflected on her tendencies to hug and hold hands with her guests, mwishing that the world would be more open about physical touch.

”I would love for us all to be more comfortable with physical touch.”

The actressed hugged and held hands during the interview while Barrymore said, “I am so lucky to embrace and actually be near someone who is breaking records.”
