Dr. Drew Apologizes For Downplaying Coronavirus

Dr. Drew is reaching out to his fans to apologize for his comments about the coronavirus. To catch you up, back in early February, Dr. Drew called the coronavirus a “press induced panic,” while arguing that not only was it less dangerous than the flu but that the chances of dying from it are lower than being “hit by an asteroid.”

According to the latest report by CNN citing Johns Hopkins University, the novel coronavirus has infected more than 1.2 million people and killed more than 65,000 worldwide.

In a video posted on Saturday, Dr. Drew explained,

“My early comments about equating coronavirus with influenza were wrong. They were incorrect. I was part of a chorus that was saying that, and we were wrong. And I want to apologize for that.” He added, “I wish I had gotten it right, but I got it wrong.”

He went on to give props to Dr. Fauci and encouraged everyone to continue to listen to him for guidance. “He was my guiding star in the AIDS epidemic and he should be your star now.”

Before concluding, the 61-year-old TV star told his fans he is now following CDC guidelines regarding social distancing and other measures.

“I’m doing what I’m supposed to do. I wear a mask outside now. And it’s paid dividends. It is improving– It is flattening the curve,” he said. “And I’m delighted to be a part of that. I’m glad to be a part of that.”
