Dr. Dre is reportedly in the works to close a $200 million music deal which will include selling the rights to his royalties and master recordings.

He is currently in the works to sell some of his assets in two separate music deals with Shamrock Holdings and Universal Music Group as reported by TMZ. For the Shamrock Holdings deal, the music mogul sells his share of N.W.A. royalties, the royalties from his first two solo albums, and the writer’s share of the music where he doesn’t own publishing rights.
For Universal Music Group, Dr. Dre will sell the master recording of “The Chronic,” in addition to his share of Kendrick Lamar’s music. However, he is not selling all of his music as the deals will generate $10 million annually in passive income and he’s not selling his ownership stake in his label, Aftermath.

However, the price of his deal is reportedly higher that the reported $200 million as per the outlet.
Previously, the music mogul came after Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for using his music in one of her campaign videos. Dr. Dre says he doesn’t allow his music to be used for political matters and his lawyer issued her a letter to have the video removed from his Twitter account. After she responded in a rather defiant matter, she later agreed not to use his music in future videos after Dr. Dre planned to take action legally.
“This firm is counsel to Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and authorized campaign committee. We are in receipt of your correspondence of January 9, 2023. On behalf of Congresswoman Greene, please be advised that no further use of Mr. Young’s copyright will be made by a political committee or via social media outlet she controls,” her lawyer wrote to Dr. Dre’s attorney.
The congresswoman also faced backlash for previously mocking the situation and critics said she should’ve considered his wishes the first time.

Just this morning, a friend and I were talking about the IP violation of her video and how Dre should issue a takedown. I’m cackling 🤣

A minimum of 3 lawyers spent the first 3 hours of this am, because she didn’t think copyright laws apply to her or she wasn’t aware copyright laws exist.
